Getty Images Highlights an International Selection of 'New Photographers' Poised to Change the Face of Advertising

Getty Images, Inc. (NYSE:GYI) will today present “New Photographers 2007” at a seminar during the 53rd annual Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival. This initiative showcases the work of 35 photographers who are destined to make a significant impact in the world of advertising next year.
With input from art directors and industry peers around the globe, Getty Images selected photographers from a variety of backgrounds. Some are local stars meriting a larger stage; some have achieved success on the editorial side but employ techniques that could also enliven advertising; and others are just plain provocative.
As broadly as the photographers’ styles vary, a common thread linking their work is the marriage of authenticity and surrealism. As explained by Getty Images SVP and Group Creative Director Lewis Blackwell, “To celebrate the truth of what we experience, photography needs to capture events with accuracy but also engage the imagination. There is a generation of imagemakers at work who understand that symbolism is every bit as ‘real’ a quality to work with as flat documentary.”
Getty Images enlisted renowned photographer, publisher and film director Rankin as a guest speaker during the Cannes seminar. Perhaps best known for his work on the Dove “Real Beauty” campaign, Rankin will offer valuable insight into the benefit of taking risks in advertising photography.
“Like me, some of this year’s participants come from an editorial background, but are in a position to carve out a niche in the creative photography arena,” said Rankin. “These photographers will be pivotal in defining key advertising industry trends in the future.”
Following the successful debut of the “New Photographers” program at Cannes last year, its return as an annual initiative demonstrates Getty Images’ enduring commitment to the evolution of photography. Below is a complete list of “New Photographers 2007.”
