Free Vintage Poster Art

Usually I’m a bit wary of websites with names that start with the word “free.” But Freevintageposters.com appears to be the real deal, offering high resolution poster art in categories like advertising, travel, movies, sports, and more.

The quality of the samples I looked at was good both in terms of color and detail.

But you might be a tad disappointed if you were hoping that “high resolution” meant high resolution at full poster size. Most of the images I downloaded were 300 ppi at 5" x 7" or 6" x 9".

You could probably get away with printing most of them at 8" x 10" and they’d look fine.

And of course the word “free” has many meanings. Free for download does not automatically mean free for use in commercial work. FreeVintagePosters.com states that it is “for educational, research, and entertainment purposes only.” Some (but not all) of the posters on Freeevintageposters.com are in the public domain, and thus available for any use. As always, you should do your own research to determine the rights associated with any piece of art you intend to use in commercial work.

But even if you only use the site for entertainment and inspiration, it’s a pretty cool resource.

Thanks, apartment therapy.
