Mid-Range Version of Adobe's Digital Publishing Suite Now for Sale

Almost two months ago, Adobe began shipping the Enterprise edition of the Digital Publishing Suite, which magazines such as Wired, Martha Stewart, and CreativePro.com sister publication InDesign Magazine have been using in beta form to produce publications for the iPad.
The Enterprise edition pricing is one of those “If you have to ask, you can’t afford it” products. The Professional edition will be viable for a wider range of potential customers. The platform fee is a fixed $5,940 a year, and the service fee varies depending on how many downloads you experience in a year:
25,000 issue downloads = $5,500 per year
250,000 issue downloads = $37,500 per year
500,000 issue downloads = $60,000 per year
As you can see, we’re still not talking about costs that are within the means of many design firms. But don’t give up hope! Adobe says by late 2011, it will let you purchase the Digital Publishing Suite through “agency partners” or on a subscription basis via the Adobe Store. Adobe promises more details in the third quarter of fiscal year 2011.
The Digital Publishing Suite meshes with InDesign CS5.5, which also began shipping today.
