3Dconnexion Announces SpaceNavigator Support for New Adobe Photoshop CS3 Software

3Dconnexion, a Logitech company, today announced that its SpaceNavigator™ device supports the recently announced Adobe® Photoshop® CS3 and Photoshop CS3 Extended software editions. Delivering powerful and intuitive 3D navigation and control, the SpaceNavigator device enables creative professionals working with 3D objects in Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended to simultaneously pan, zoom and rotate camera views and 3D objects.
The integration of 3D technology in digital imaging tools is accentuating the limits of the traditional keyboard and mouse for manipulating 3D objects, and driving the need for functional 3D navigation tools. Paired with Photoshop CS3 Extended, the SpaceNavigator device allows digital content creators, architects, product designers, and those creating 3D tools for training and simulation to significantly enhance their 3D design experience and workflow.
“The SpaceNavigator device gives precise and continuous visual control of 3D models within Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended without switching tools, enriching the artist’s insight and comprehension of the content in a way not possible with a mouse and a keyboard alone,” said Rory Dooley, president of 3Dconnexion. “SpaceNavigator’s expanded support for Adobe Photoshop CS3 underscores our commitment to ensuring compatibility with a wide range of applications employing 3D technology. We look forward to the contributions creative professionals will make with this combined power.”
The SpaceNavigator device is a companion to the mouse and is held in the alternate hand. Users apply very slight movements to the device’s controller cap to simultaneously pan, zoom and rotate 3D objects. The SpaceNavigator device complements the preview of 3D models in Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended and is an essential tool for 3D artists creating detailed texture maps.
“It’s exciting to see companies like 3Dconnexion already supporting Photoshop CS3 Extended with their SpaceNavigator device,” said Kevin Connor, senior director of product management for Adobe Digital Imaging Professional Products. “With Photoshop CS3 Extended, film, video and multimedia professionals, and graphic and Web designers can take advantage of the power of the Photoshop image-editing toolset and paint engine when editing 3D and motion-based content. The SpaceNavigator device helps round out the 3D workflow, providing creative professionals the flexibility to experiment and push the limits with Photoshop CS3 Extended.”
In addition to controlling 3D objects in Photoshop CS3 Extended, the SpaceNavigator device pans and zooms traditional 2D images in both Adobe Photoshop CS2 and CS3. Artists creating texture maps will have effortless navigation between 2D and 3D imagery.
